Zambales is a province of the Philippines located in the Central Luzon region. Its capital is Iba. Zambales borders Pangasinan to the north, Tarlac and Pampanga to the east, and Bataan to the south. The province lies between the South China Sea and the Zambales Mountains. With a land area of 3,700 km2, Zambales is the second largest among the seven provinces of Central Luzon. It has a population density of 170 people per square kilometer², one of the lowest in the country. The province is noted for its mangoes, which are abundant from January to April. Below are some of the Islands to be found in Zambales.

Capones Island

Picture
Originally named “Isla Gran de Capon” during the Spanish era, Capones Island does not have commercial resorts and facilities. The island is a big rock formation with high cliffs and little soil, and is joined by a sand bar (which disappears during high tide) to two smaller islands called Camara, which are only two kilometers away from the mainland. Since the surrounding waters of South China Sea are described to be rough, it is advisable to take a boat ride early in the morning when the sea is still calm. Visitors may opt to camp in a tent along the beaches if there is no typhoon or stay in the small fishing village of Pundaquit where they can hire a boat to get to Capones.
